Around the world, whole house and drinking water purification systems are commonly used for improving water for drinking, bathing, cooking and cleaning. There are many components to a water system. Whole House Systems typically include:
1. An Activated Carbon Filter:
This system, typically used for every application and usually installed next to your water heater, is used to remove chlorine and other pollutants. Chlorine actually binds with the other elements in the water producing organochlorides or chlorocarbons, such as chloramines, and are all carcinogens. The gasous form, chloroform, also a carcinogen, is argued that it is produced heavily in your shower because it's hot, and more is ingested because you are breathing it and your skin is absorbing it.
2. A Water Softner and Brine Tank:
This system, used in almost every application and also installed next to your water heater, is used to remove hard ions (calcium and magnesium) as seen as spots on dishes and glasses, soap scum, and the gunk around the water heater. Results from the U.S. Geological Survey indicate that 85% of American Homes are supplied with hard water. Homes in the U.S. have hardness ratings from 1 gpg (grains per gallon) to well in excess of 350 gpg. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends using water not exceeding 7 gpg.
3. An Iron and Sulfur Tank:
This system is typically only used in areas where iron and sulphur are at high levels and again, installed next to your water heater. Iron, maganese and sulfur are oxidized and removed from your water, protecting your plumbing and appliances, and eliminating the taste and odor.
Kitchen System - Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane
1. A Sediment Filter
2. An Activated Carbon Filter to trap organic chemicals and chlorine, which will attack and degrade reverse osmosis membranes.
3. A Reverse Osmosis (RO) filter which is a thin film composite membrane. (explained below)
4. A 3-5 gallon holding tank, booster pump and faucet.
